In loving memory of Leonard Harry Cother who sadly passed away on 9th April 2022.

Len was born in Birkenhead on the 21st October 1944 to parents Leonard and Mary Cother. He was the eldest of five children, big brother to Mary, Christine, Terrance and Barry. He spent his childhood in Evesham surrounded by family, aunts uncles and cousins. Len was 15 when he decided to join the Army, he enlisted in the Worcester regiment on the 5th January 1960 and later the Staffordshire regiment where he retired as a Warrant Officer after 24 years exemplary service.

In 1965 he met the love of his life Joycelynn they married August 1966 and spent the next 55 years in love. He became a dad in 1967 to daughter Angela and again in 1972 to son Mark. In 1992 he became "Grampa" to Sam, then followed Emily, Leanne, Joe, Jade and Amy-Leigh. Father in law to Paul and Lindsay, Step-grandparent to Laurie and Dave and in June 2021 he became a great granddad to Freya.

Len loved many things dogs hockey, boxing, reading, Sci-fi, westerns, antiques, clocks!, Fudge Liquorice, Disaronno the odd brandy, fig rolls, lemon curd and fisherman's friends but above all he was a family man through and through.

He was always there to help with babysitting children or pets, plumbing, tiling transport, he had his own way of doing things but he always had a great sense of humour and a mischievous grin.

A loyal and caring husband an amazing supportive dad, a fun loving grampa. Simply the best and a hero to us all. We are all blessed to have had him in our lives and carry him in our hearts.

Grampa,

I’m not sure how we will manage another family do, Sunday dinner or Christmas without you and your terrible jokes, some of which, are far too inappropriate to put on here!

Your special hot chocolates with marshmallows, strawberry milkshakes and going for walks down the canal will never be the same gramps, just like hearing your voice when I would call and hear you say ‘56701!’

I will always carry you with me in spirit and I carry so many of your mannerisms it’s ridiculous ! (Even so much as flattening every inch of the recycling down before putting it into the blue bin lol)

I know you are no longer here with us physically, but if there is one thing that I will carry with me for the rest of my life is knowing that things will almost always blow over, life is short so live it, things can ALWAYS be worse so be positive! And most of all how important family is. You were such an inspiration to all of us. You were selfless, kind, caring and would do absolutely anything for anyone and would never let any of us down. Your courage and bravery along with your cheeky smile and positivity lasted right until the very end.

You are truly and will always be the best grandparent that anyone could ever, ever wish for. I miss you so much Grampa, that will never go away but I will never let you go in my heart and I think of you every day in everything that I do.

I’ll cherish our last cup of tea that we shared together that day in the hospital in my heart forever and that you told me if you can, you’ll be there.

Love always,

Leanne x

Grampa had an ability to make light heart of situations, doesn’t take anything too seriously, even In his last hours managed to make us all laugh by talking about his nuts being stuck!

Grampa in the past had said to me ‘it will blow over, it won’t hurt like this forever. the first time I remember him saying this to me was when I was young crying over something silly, he would put his arm around me and say, it will blow over. I actually think these words often, probably most times if not every time I’m sad, his words have always given me prospective and helped me see some positive amongst the sad. Since Grumps passed away i have thought them repeatedly, he would have been able to comfort us all in this situation make a light hearted joke or something to cheer the mood.

The good memories will stay with us all forever and his words will continue to influence me to be as positive, happy and as kind as he was.

Memories of my brother

How well I do remember all the special times we had as we were raised side by side sharing good times, sharing bad.

That is foremost what stands out most in my mind, of us thee eldest, Leonard, Christine and I.

May the angels wrap their arms around you until we meet again
With love, your sister Mary.
