Funeral Director
In loving memory of Roy George Thomas Cakebread who sadly passed away on 12th March 2022.
Roy was a loving Father to his son Jason and daughter Sharon, he was a willing man, always happy to help and advise where he could, and he did help, a lot.
Roy's mobility in later life was hindered by increasingly deteriorating knee joints but that never stopped him telling a story or two and helping out where he could. Roy was always thinking of things that he could do to make his life easier to get about.
Earlier in life Roy was in the Army, he used to ride motorcycles as a dispatch rider. he later turned to train driving as a career for many year, I think that he completed an apprenticeship on steam trains. Also to help with home life and supporting his family Roy had a second job working for his friends as a fork truck fitter. Many of my days growing up were spent exploring the fork lift trucks down Gillingham pier where I played most of my school summer holiday's
Roy had many hobbies, Golf, fishing, motorbikes, all of which he loved with a passion, and of course he passed the love of these hobbies to me, as I find myself taking part in the same activities when possible. Another passion of Roy's was his boat that a kind friend left to him. I didn't list the boat as one of his hobbies as it was more like a way of life. He spend many hours, even day's on the boat, much more than at his home, tinkering and fixing things, anytime I called around his home and found him to be out, my next stop would be the marina, sure enough he would be there, sitting in the galley watching TV. a certainty, whenever going to the boat was that as soon as you stepped on board the boat you would find yourself with a beer or glass of wine in your hand, even before having time to take your coat off.
Missing you so much Dad, Love Jason. XXX
