In loving memory of Kenroy Smith "Ken", who sadly passed away on 28th February 2022, aged 64 years.
Born in Chatham in 1957, Ken was the fourth child of Sid and Edith Smith and youngest brother to Valerie, Richard and Edith.
He attended Balfour Primary School and soon showed a talent within art. He then moved onto Highfield Secondary School developing his practical and artistic skills and completing his A-level art course in preparation for college where he studied professional model making in the hopes this would be the basis of his career.
Kenroy eventually settled into the role of school technician and worked at Highfield School before moving onto Thomas Aveling Secondary School. Whilst at Thomas Aveling he worked in Food, Textiles and Design and Technology and also became a lecturer of Manufacturing, Art and Design and (unbelievably) Maths within the school.
He married in 1997, the same year that he sadly lost his Mum and spent the next few years caring for his Dad before he too sadly passed away in 2000. Not long after this he decided he would stop work and start a business and that plan would have worked if it hadn't been for the arrival of Zoe.
Ken was the parent who stayed at home to bring Zoe up and he did an excellent job of it, and when she became ill he became her official carer. She was the light of his life and if you needed to cheer him up during his illness you simply had to send her in with a piece of her amazing artwork and she soon sorted him out.
Ken was diagnosed with colorectal cancer 4 years ago and he had surgery to remove the growth and a third of his colon, followed by chemotherapy. We had hoped that this would be enough, but sadly the cancer had metasticised within a year and his diagnosis was terminal. He has had every chemo he could have in the last 3 years and he has managed to stay positive and cheerful to the end.
He got his final wish and passed away at home with his family.
The family would prefer to have donations to Cancer Research in lieu of flowers.
Although flowers may be sent c/o John Weir Funeral Directors Chatham by 10am on the day or donations may be sent in Ken's memory if desired to 'Cancer Research UK' via the link on this page.
We have made arrangements for the funeral to be webcast and the sign in details are here -
