In loving memory of Gladys Lucy Shepherd who sadly passed away on 9th February 2022. Gladys was the second child of Bernard and Gladys Jackson, one of three sisters who shared a very close bond with Renee and Audrey. All three sisters started their married lives on George Street, Arnold in the early 1950's. GLADYS and Norman, Renee and Kurt and Audrey and Colin. GLADYS was the last surviving member of that generation and had lived in George Street, until 2020.
Gladys had started work as a librarian, also a school secretary, before becoming a full time mum with children Neil, Karen and Melanie. She returned to library work once were all at school and she loved her time at Nottingham Central Library until retirement at 60. Gladys and Norman had a happy retirement, using their caravan trips to track down family tree records, loved their home and garden and seeing their grand children, Will,Debbie, Eve and Mike, grow up. They enjoyed travel and trips to Spain and enjoyed the company of their friends locally. Gladys was a founding member of a local ladies coffee morning group as well as Chairperson for the Townswomens Guild.
Sadly Norman died in 2015 but Gladys remained in George Street with the care of her family and neighbours until 2020 when she moved to Belvoir Vale Care Home, near Widmerpool. She received excellent care there and her family were very grateful to know that through all the covid restrictions imposed, she was happy, cheerful and loved.
