Mary Watts (24 Nov 1927 - 18 Jan 2022)

In loving memory of Mary Watts who sadly passed away on 18th January 2022

Mary was born in Church Farm, Shapwick. She was 12 when war broke out.

After leaving Elmhurst Grammar School Mary trained as a secretary and had many interesting jobs including secretary to one of the directors at Westlands Aircraft where she met her husband, David.

Mary’s bright, cheerful and caring personality won her many friends as demonstrated by her extensive Christmas and birthday card list which helped the Post Office turn a profit.

Mary spent her life helping and caring for others, her husband, her mother and father, Joan and William Marsh, her aunt, Elsie Marsh and her sister, Beryl Marsh. Sadly, Mary’s brother, Harold and his wife, Eleanor, predeceased her.

Mary spent the last four and half years of her life at Ashley House in Langport where she received wonderful love and care and she passed away peacefully there on 18th January 2022.

Mary is survived by her daughter, Lyn, her grandchildren, Mark, Sarah and David, many great-grandchildren, her much-loved nieces, Anne, Alison, Marion, Eleanor and cousins, Gill and Brenda. She will be greatly missed.

A funeral service will be held at Somerton Town Cemetery on 9th February 2022 at 2pm.
