I was privileged to know Colin as a lifelong friend, starting when we both worked on the Nottingham Evening News as reporters in the late 1950s. We remained close friends for the rest of his life with our common interest in football and politics. I will sorely miss his cheery voice and down to earth approach on the state of the nation!
