Janet Gorry (13 Feb 1931 - 4 Jan 2022)
In loving memory of Janet Gorry (Jenny) who sadly passed away on 4th January 2022
Jenny was born (at home in Partick) on 13th February 1931 - firstborn to Jimmy and Edie Murphy. In Partick the family were part of a close community of friends and cousins. Her brother Jimmy followed and the family was completed by her sister Gladys just as Jenny was starting work.
She met and married Robby who was from a large family in Greenock. Having started married life in Greenock they moved back to Glasgow with their daughter Jackie and stayed in Anderson street Partick: In 1957 they moved to Drumchapel. At that time Robby and Jenny worked for Babcock and Wilcox. Jenny worked full time as a wages clerkess.
The couple socialised in The West of Scotland Cricket club and Partick bowling club. They enjoyed life together and the family had a lovely extended family through nieces nephews and later granddaughters Carol and Alison. Jenny was always popular with children and doted on her family.
In 1997 her beloved husband Robby died and Jenny tho bereft carried on family life. She retired from WSGordon and continued with a part time job in a newsagents.
She loved bingo and dancing and family parties- remembering all the old songs and poems from her childhood till the end. Rhymes and stories are passed to her grandchildren her nieces nephews and great nieces and nephews.
In later years her health deteriorated and she moved into sheltered housing where her social life continued in meeting with friends in the common room for bingo ,a refreshment and a chat and also taking a taxi to her beloved buffs club on a Saturday night. Until recently she still tried a wee spot of dancing and listening to the entertainment. It is safe to say she enjoyed her life. She died peacefully tucked up in bed.
