In loving memory of Barbara Marshall who sadly passed away in her sleep on 6th January 2022.
Mum was born in Carlton Nottingham and lived the majority of her life there. Her school days were spent at St Pauls C of E primary school and Cavendish Road Secondary School were she excelled in Embroidery and English. Examples of her work were displayed in school for a number of years. After school Mum worked at Boots and met Dad who worked there too. They married 1 September 1951 at St Pauls Carlton and enjoyed 51 years of marriage before Dad passed away on 18 September 2002. This happened just ten weeks after their first grandchildren Tom and Molly were born to daughter Karen and husband Peter. Seven years later grandson Joe was born to daughter Janet and husband Simon. Mum really enjoyed seeing her grandchildren and loved outings out to the seaside, parks and gardens and garden centres. Mum and Dad loved gardening and spent most of their spare time tending to the gardens they had firstly on Campbell Drive and then on Foxhill Road Carlton. They enjoyed speaking to neighbours and people as they passed by and admired their work, often passing on seeds and cuttings. In later years Mum moved to a flat in West Bridgford where she only had a small garden but that didn't stop her gardening; not only did she work hard on her small plot she branched out with many pots and also tackled overground communial areas. For her last few years Mum moved in an annex at daughter Karen's home. Although she was unable to garden she could sit and enjoy Karen's garden outside in good weather and through the two sets of french doors on cold and wet days.
Please click if you are attending the funeral, you are welcome to Wilford Hill and the wake. Please don't just wear black add something of colour too, to celebrate Mum's life. Mum loved pink, lilac, mauve and purple also blue is the colour of forget-me-nots the symbol of the alzheimer's society.
We are hoping for family flowers only and if you can give a donation to the Alzheimer's society in lieu of flowers that would be fantastic. If not it would just be lovely to see you. Let's hope something can be found soon to cure, slow down or alleviate this terrible disease. Thank you. XXX
