In loving memory of Hannah Ellis, a wonderful wife, beautiful daughter and sister, and an amazing mother to two amazing children. Hannah sadly passed away on 3rd January 2022 following a long battle with breast cancer that started in June 2016.
Everyone who knew Hannah could affirm that she was the most wonderful, kind and caring person. She was also the bravest, most resilient, and strongest person I've ever known who dealt with the hardship she experienced with grace, humour and determination.
Hannah grew up in Thundersley with her mum Sue, dad Reuben, and brother Michael. Hannah had many happy holidays and memories growing up with her family and friends and was good at art, music, running and academics as a child. She went to Thundersley Primary, Kingston, and then the Deanes School followed by SEEVIC, where I met her, and then onto the University of Kent where she studied English and American literature and got a 2:1.
After graduating she went into Somerfield's graduate scheme as a store manager before changing careers and heading into the Civil Service to work in the Department of Education, as the executive assistant to the Director General. This was shortly after we got married in 2008 and just before we bought our first home in 2009.
Following the birth of our daughter Sophie in 2012 she retrained as a teacher, a profession she loved, and taught early years/reception until shortly before the birth of our son Joshua in late 2015. Being a mother was everything to her and she absolutely adored and treasured her children. An amazing mummy and wonderful wife.
In June 2016 she was diagnosed with breast cancer and following surgery, and treatment over the next several months, supported by her close family, she was given the all clear. A family holiday with the children and her parents cruising on the Queen Mary across the Atlantic and into New York in the summer of 2018 was one of her most special memories. In late 2018 Hannah's hip broke as a result of metastatic cancer of the bones, where it had spread throughout her skeletal system. As a result she had to have two hip replacements and was in hospital for several weeks.
Following this and unsuccessful further treatment by Southend hospital she was referred to the Royal Marsden in mid-2019 and put on a trial that worked well and kept her cancer stable until March 2021. During this time she was accompanied up to the Marsden by either her parents or myself for her treatment and appointments. Following this, other treatments were tried and seemed to be working until late 2021 when her liver got gradually worse and no further treatment was possible.
Throughout her life Hannah has raised money for Havens Hospices and was also a supporter of the Royal Marsden Cancer Charity. There will be family flowers only at her funeral so please feel free to donate on here for the benefit of those charities if you wish to do so.
Hannah's funeral will be held at Basildon Crematorium on Friday, 4 February 2022 at 12:00PM (noon). Followed by a wake and celebration of her life at The Chichester Hotel, Old London Road, Wickford, Essex SS11 8UE
