In loving memory of Jackie Jenkin-Jones who sadly passed away on 31st December 2021

Jackie Jenkin-Jones OBE was born Jacqueline Monica Whyman in Grappenhall, Cheshire, on March 30th 1939 – the only child of loving parents Kenneth and Marion.
She was a high-flying student at the local girls grammar school before studying at Salford University – which she represented on the pilot episode of television’s ‘University Challenge’.
Jackie had an active social life in amateur dramatics, tennis and particularly the Young Conservatives and one of her earlier claims to fame was being crowned Miss Port Erin in 1957 aged just 18.
She worked in the science labs at ICI before being recruited as one of the first and youngest female agents for the Conservative party.
Through her association with the Conservative party, she met her future husband Peter as well as many lifelong friends.
Peter and Jackie were married in Chelsea, London, in September 1964 before setting up home in Mapperley, Nottingham. Their first child Sarah was born in 1965, followed by Tony in 1967.
Peter was a highly regarded solicitor with Eking Manning and was the Deputy Coroner and ultimately Coroner for Nottinghamshire before his death in April 1995 aged 68.
Jackie combined family life with several roles including supporting Eking Manning’s clients with debt recovery, representing Sherwood on Nottinghamshire County Council for many years as well as continuing to be active with the Conservative party both locally and nationally and supporting several organisations and charities.
Her contribution to public life and particularly her services to education were recognised in 1995 when she was presented with the OBE by HRH The Prince of Wales at Buckingham Palace.
Jackie had many interests over the past couple of decades. These included bowls, bridge and politics and she was a member of many clubs and societies from Women’s Fellowship to the Patrons Club and the Millbank.
She particularly enjoyed cruising as well as socialising and entertaining her huge friendship group including neighbours who were such a huge support to her over the many happy years she spent at Royal Standard House.
She remained active until the dreaded Covid pandemic restricted life for her and so many others and this was compounded in mid-2020 when she was diagnosed with inoperable bowel cancer.
Throughout her illness, she remained positive and stalwart with a great sense of humour and, in the last few months, she was cared for at home by Sarah and Tony with the support of friends and neighbours and the amazing team of carers to whom the family will be eternally grateful for their kindness and support.
Her family and many close friends had the chance to say their goodbyes during her last few days and Jackie passed away peacefully at her home in Nottingham on 31st December 2021.
The cremation service has been arranged for 11.30am on Friday January 21st 2022 at Gedling Crematorium, Catfoot Lane, Lambley, Nottingham NG4 4QH and afterwards at Lakeside (former pumping station), Waterworks House, Arnold, Nottingham NG5 8PH. There is plenty of accessible parking at both venues.
We are asking for family flowers only and donations in lieu to Tenby RNLI. Please make cheques payable to AW Lymn and send to Robin Hood House, Robin Hood Street, Nottingham, NG3 1GF or cash donations will be received at the service.
