Miss you every single day. Remembering your smile, your twinkling eyes when you were amused or embarrassed, your infectious laughter & your seasonal epiphanies. Still love you so much.

In loving memory of Simon Russell Doney who sadly passed away on 7th December 2021. Simon was the only son of Jenny (Sanders) Doney & Cliff Doney. He was a fun & supportive Dad to his children Micah & Anya. Simon was my best friend, soulmate and husband of 22 years.
Simon lived most of his childhood in Hastings. He read avidly, even as a child, and was fascinated with history, battles & anything related to history. In fact, we spent most of our time in libraries, museums, castles and hillforts in the last 25 years.
Simon discovered music in his teens, and there began his love of 60s rock, Metallica, Nick Drake, Ska & anything a little alternative. When we met I'd like to think I educated him into folk & some religious music. His taste in music was indeed ecclectic, and he penned his own lyrical poems over the years.
Whilst Simon didn't apply himself at school, he eventually went on to do a degree in business studies. It wasn't his love, but he did well none the less. He decided that whilst working he would do an A Level in History at night school. He loved studying!
Spiritually Simon had become a Christian in his teens, but often said he only really grew & matured spiritually in his early twenties. He discovered a love for the study of the Bible, and a love for Church history throughout the ages. His passion led to further studies at ETCW with Lampeter University where he completed a PhD in Church History.
It's during his studies in Wales that Simon was mentored & encourage to develop his abilities for teaching. Many of his friends & family will know that over the years he has taught in a number of educational settings, and been an Evangelical Christian preacher. He lit up when researching, discussing & preparing for lessons and even more so for sermons.
Simon's faith gave him a biblical perspective on everything in life whether it be family, friendships, work, nature (he loved walking, spotting wild creatures & especially birds of prey), our church communities, the wonder of other cultures, and his own character.
Simon would be the first to say he was not perfect, but to those of us who knew him personally he was perfectly mischievous, witty, intense thinker, world cuisine lover & most sensitive caring man ever. We miss him.
