In loving memory of Alan William Service who sadly passed away on 2nd August 2015.

An amazing husband, father, grandfather, uncle, cousin and friend. He lived for his family and always put them first. He was an only child, married Stella in 1957 and had two children of his own Adrian and Sarah. He was a loving grandfather to three granddaughters - Rachel, Savannah, and Maisie.

Forever in our hearts and greatly missed.

I have so many wonderful memories of Alan, he was like a second Dad to me in my childhood. I remember the Sunday morning walks on the Heath with Kim and then Tarkar, swimming at White Oak swimming pool, and the lovely holiday on the Isle of Aaron. My more recent memory is with Stella and Alan and my own family at their house in Bordeaux. Alan you will be so sadly missed, and my thoughts are with Stella, Adrian and Sarah at this sad time. Love Always Amanda xxxx

I first met Alan and his family (before there was a Sarah) through a mutual hobby, radio controlled model aeroplanes, when I was in college ! After a while I became an honorary member of the Service family, with "all the rights and privileges", and it truly is an honour. I learned all my DIY skills from Alan, including plumbing and how to mix large quantities of cement to keep his brother-in-law John laying bricks to build a garage (boy did I ache the next day !). There were the wonderful Christmas Eve extravaganzas. My own family (we live in the USA) are always welcome in the Service household, truly like family. Alan was a great role model, I could never be such a good one :-( He will be greatly missed by everyone who knew him, in my case from 4000 miles away :-( Farewell Alan.

My dad was always there for me - through good times and bad and it seems a cliche but he was just about the nearest to perfection that you could ask for a father. Loving, kind, supportive, funny, caring and clever in so many ways. I truly do not have any negatives memories and cherish the time we had together. I'll always love you daddy.
