Antony Spilman of Needham market passed away on November 4, 2021, age 56 years.

Antony was a much-loved husband to Marga, father to his children Rafel and Marina, and a much-loved son of his parents Joan and Ken.

Antony has always been a very proud and generous family member, always ready to help his extended family over the years; he will be greatly missed.

Born in Bristol, where he grew up and went to school in Winterbourne Down, Antony always considered himself a man of the world.

Antony obtained his BSc at Southampton University and his MSc degree whilst working at Stanford University, California. He lived in San Jose for a number of years.

Working for large international companies in senior management positions, Antony always believed in building a strong team around him through supporting younger team members’ development.

His interests have been sailing, gardening, family, skiing, radio ham & the world at large.

The funeral will take place at the St John the Baptist Church in Needham market on the 3rd of December at 1:00 pm.

Family flowers only please but donations may be given if desired to the British Heart foundation.

A family only service will be held at the Seven Hills Crematorium at 2:15 pm. Afterwards, a buffet has been arranged from 2:30 pm at the Royal Harwich Yacht Club, Woolverstone, Ipswich, IP9 1AT where all are welcome.

Shocked to find that Anthony will no longer be a Marina neighbour at Royal Harwich, fair winds and good sailing.

We (radio friends/acquaintances) have just learned that Antony passed away. We use the term SK. Silent Key. i.e. no more Morse keying. Just to let you all know, the radio waves last night were full of tributes to Antony.

  • Thank you so much, I know Antony loved the radio waves community but I did not know how to reach you and let you know. Thank you for your kind words; his family would have loved hearing those tributes.

This was a terrible shock to so many. I am so sorry to hear the sad news. My condolences to Marga and the family, who will greatly miss him.
Antony rapidly made a difference when he arrived at Aveva, both at work and on our boat at the ECC regatta when ho took over as skipper. I was pleased to work with him and sail with him. He motivated and coached a scratch crew enabling us to win gold medals! I shall miss his good humour and guidance.
