In loving memory of Lewis Wilkins who sadly passed away on 31st October 2021
Lewis was a quiet but thoughtful man who had lots of interests including his bee keeping. He started helping his Dad when he was just 8 years old and he kept his own bees until 3 years before he died. He won many awards for his honey and bees wax creations
He was a horticulturist by trade and worked at A R Wills until the time that they closed. He was a keen gardener and had a vast knowledge about plants which was shown in the gardens that he and Beryl designed at their homes and indeed that he shared with his family and friends.
After he was married he tended an allotment, which he had for many years and which provided many crops of vegetables that always tasted better for being home grown.
Lewis loved his beagles, enough to spend the night sleeping on the kitchen floor when they had their first puppy Hannibal, who thankfully soon settled into his new home! He had 4 beagles but not all at the same time!
He must have walked thousands of miles over the years taking the dogs for their walks and he was certainly a familiar face when out and about with them.
Lewis was very handy about the house, turning his hand to many different tasks one of which included making a bed for his granddaughter Hannah so that it would fit her bedroom, not many grandfathers could do that.
He also enjoyed his cycling, Lewis always made time to take his children cycling and walking, pastimes which still make them happy to this day
Sadly as Lewis got older he developed Alzheimers., he was looked after by Beryl but as his needs grew he moved in to Knights Grove care home during the Covid lockdown which meant that his family weren’t able to see him as they would normally have done, but they were grateful to be able to spend time with him as the restrictions lifted.
So although we will all miss him dearly we will treasure lots of happy memories of our time with him and all the things that he did with and for us.
