David grew up in Halifax with 2 older brothers, Paul and Michael, and a younger sister, Angela. He spent 3 years of his childhood in Cork, Ireland with the rest of his family. On returning to the UK, he worked his way up from an accountancy trainee to the Financial Director of an engineering firm Bradley Doublelock. After meeting Joan at a dance in Wetherby, they married a few years later, in 1974. Their beloved children, Andrew and Sarah, came along in 1977 and 1979. After the children went to university, he returned to education whilst working full time and obtained his MBA in 1998 with distinction.
Having bought out and made a success of Bradley Doublelock, he took early retirement and bought a second home in France with Joan. They both enjoyed the French lifestyle, food, weather and scenery and hosting family and friends in their sprawling countryside farmhouse. Back at home in Cross Hills, he continued to cultivate his other lifelong passions: steam trains, hiking and tennis. He worked as a volunteer at the Keighley & Worth Valley Steam Railway and organised monthly hikes in the Yorkshire Dales with former colleagues and friends.
It was whilst enjoying the peace and beauty of the Dales around Kettlewell that he passed away in October 2021.
David lived a full and active life right up until the end and he wouldn't have wanted it any other way. He was a devoted husband and father and his warm, kind and generous spirit touched the lives of family, friends and colleagues alike. His fun, quirky and upbeat nature will be sorely missed by all.
Rest in Peace David
