Peter was born in Harborne, Birmingham. The second of three children to Dennis and Ann Howes. Sadly, the eldest Son David passed away in 2014 and Peter is survived by his younger brother Paul.
His family moved to Fulford in York in 1952, where they remained until 1997.
In 1969, at the age of 21, Peter joined the West Yorkshire Police; serving in both Barnsley, where Cris was born and then Wetherby, where Sue was born 3 years following. He later transferred to the North Yorkshire Police in 1976 where he remained a Police Constable for an admirable 31 years; followed by 10 years as a civilian, eventually retiring aged 62. Peter thoroughly enjoyed his retirement.
It was through Peter’s love of Badminton that he met his wife Carol whilst playing at the then very vibrant Railway Institute club and they continued to play there for over forty years. On moving to Tadcaster he ran a Junior Club for 10 – 18 year olds.
Carol and Peter were married in March 1983 and remained together for a very happy 38 years. Between them they have 4 children Cris, Sue, Julia and Andrew. Peter was a doting Grandad to Julia & Rick’s children, Robert and Christian.
Unfortunately, in November 2020, Peter although having always been an incredibly healthy and active man, was diagnosed with an incurable cancer. Only a short year later, on 1st November 2021 at the age of 73, Peter sadly passed away at York District Hospital surrounded by his family.
