In loving memory of David George Barradell who sadly passed away on 6th November 2021.

---

In true 'David Barradell' fashion, Dave wrote his Life Story in 2020 - which he had been adding to up until August this year. His 'closing statements' are below - all written in his own words:

"In closing though, I would like to put down one or two ‘mottoes’ that have stood me in good stead over the years – some may seem to be contradictory, some not; it all depends on the circumstances:

‘Get in kid before it’s too late – you may never get another chance’ – Rod Stewart, The Killing of Georgie Part I and Part II.

‘Things don’t just happen; they are made to happen’ – John F Kennedy.

Never sit back and think ‘I’ve made it’ (whatever ‘it’ may be); if you do that, something will come and bite you in the bum!

Be careful, be kind – and beware of ‘Karma’.

Never ‘give up’ and always ‘believe’; I have never ‘given up’ on anything and have won more squash matches from losing positions than I have lost matches from winning ones (there was one memorable team match when I was 2 – 0 down and facing match point, but then came back to win it). I have never left a football match early (even when we were losing) and seen a number of equalisers or winners to change the result – don’t just ‘hope’ – always ‘believe’.

And finally - I’ve never regretted anything that I’ve done – only things that I haven’t."

For the funeral, we would appreciate family flowers only, and instead would prefer donations to a charity that is close to Dave's heart. On this page, you will find a link to donate to his favourite charity; the National Memorial Arboretum (via Just Giving), which you are more than welcome to use.

Please wear whatever you feel comfortable in. As a life-long Leicester City fan, we would appreciate it if you could wear a touch of blue - which we're sure Dave would love.

For those who can't attend, the funeral will also be available to view online (both on the day, and for up to 7 days afterwards). You can view this here:

As a good neighbour you have left us Dave far too early and I shall miss your help and seeing you around. Our football chats will have to wait for another time. To Karen and family, my sincere sympathy and best wishes to you all. Neil Hand and family.

Dad, you magnificent man. Thank you for everything you’ve done for me, taught me, and laughed about with me. And thank you for taking so many photos in the 80’s – it’s given me lots of much-needed laughs seeing just how short your shorts used to be!

Missing you a lot, but, as you would say – it is what it is. I’ve got a lifetime of memories with you, and I promise I’ll ‘be kind and be good’. Also, don’t worry - I promise I’ll make sure to take all the action shots of people eating Christmas dinner for you.

‘Catch you later!’ xxx
