In loving memory of Ruth Chamberlain (nee Martin) who sadly passed away on 3rd November 2021

Ruth was born in Oldham, Lancashire. After leaving school she trained as a Nursery Nurse before starting her nursing training at Nottingham City hospital in the 1950s.

She married Kenneth on the 24th November 1956 at St Martin’s Church in Bilborough. A year later their first child Ken was born. Their second child Barry was born in 1960.

After qualifying Ruth worked for a short time at the City Hospital then moved to the Nottingham Women’s Hospital on Peel Street where latterly she ran the Theatre Dept. In 1981 when the Women’s Hospital closed she moved to the QMC and was senior Nursing Officer. After a long nursing career, being devoted to her role, Ruth took early retirement in 1993. Kenneth retired too and they had many happy years together enjoying life.

In 2015 Ruth was diagnosed with Vascular Dementia and the last 3 years of her life have been extremely challenging for Kenneth who has cared for Ruth at home. She died very peacefully, is free from torment and will be missed very much by Kenneth and the the whole of her family.

Dear Mum, we will miss you for so many reasons. For the love and devotion you gave to us and the whole family. For always being there never judging us no matter what! For giving your time and patience so generously if we needed to talk, always understanding and offering advice. For being completely selfless, always putting us before yourself and making sure that we always had everything we needed.
We miss your lovely smile, your cheeky giggle, your soft Lancashire accent and your wonderful sense of humour! Most of all we miss your love and we were so privileged to be told so often how much you loved us. We loved and still love you too and we’re heartbroken that we won’t be able to tell you this again.
May you rest in peace now, free from the torment and suffering that consumed you in your final years. Sending so much love from us both xxxx

Mum, you'll never know how much I will truly miss you - Every second of every day. The last few years have been difficult, particularly of the dreadful illness that beset you. Your at peace now, and time to let God take care of you. We can never truly say goodbye, just farewell for now. Our time together was perfect in every way. Rest in peace Mum. Ken, Irina and Viki xxx
