What will I tell them about Grandpa?
How he did elephant impressions
And Elvis renditions,
Read stories,
Swam his signature buffalo stroke,
Packed a suit for holidays
In case the President invited him to dinner.

What will I tell them about Grandpa?
How he prized education,
Reminisced about school,
The glorious Trinity days,
Was never too busy to explain the homework,
But tutted at errors in the crossword
Why write in pen with no adjoining clues?

What will I tell them about Grandpa?
How he watched cricket for hours,
Composed ditties about cats and doctors,
Listened to opera,
Cooked once a year,
Always had his camera,
Waiting for the right angle.

What will I tell them about Grandpa?
How he worked hard,
Restored a house,
Loved his family,
The one that he had built,
The one that he had found after so long.

What will I tell them about Grandpa?
How he sang loudest in this congregation,
Believed this church was the heart of the village,
Wished for all to find peace here.

Where will we find you

We'll find you in the playfulness of your grandchildren; making faces, singing songs, always a kid at heart.

When we pitch a tent we will think of Daddy, the boy scout, and the adventures he took us on.

We'll discover you in the Encyclopedia Britannica or in the strategy of a game of chess. In a box of Turkish delight or while opening our presents on Christmas day.

When summer comes we will sit with you on your Tuscan terrace, laughing, arguing, drinking coffee and basking in the sun.

And when the light is particularly beautiful, we know you'll be there to capture it, and blow it up extra large so we won't forget the wonderful life we have shared.
