Julia McIntee
April 1954 - October 2021
Julia Dale McIntee, age 67, passed away on Tuesday 19 October 2021 at West Suffolk Hospital. She developed rheumatoid arthritis in her early 20’s – she bore this cheerfully over the years. The medication weakened her body and she died from problems with her lungs.
Julia was born in Brighton in 1954 to Gladys and Alfred Souch, joining her older brothers Michael and Neil. She attended Varndean Grammar School where she excelled in art and met Georgina Hole and Barbara Wood, who were to remain close friends to her throughout her life.
Julia and I met in Brighton in 1975 , while we were both working for the Post Office Telecommunications, and we married in 1977. Following the birth of Katherine, our first daughter, Julia left work so that she could care for our young family. We remained in Brighton for our first few years together, where we also welcomed our second daughter Caroline, and then moved via Woking to Felixstowe, where our third and fourth daughters - Philippa and Victoria - completed our family.
We lived in Felixstowe for 36 years and moved when it became necessary to find a bungalow. Julia supported me in the many activities I was involved in at St Felix Catholic Church and the Landguard Rotary Club.
Raising a family of four young children was a full time job in itself, but as our daughters grew up and left home Julia had more time to pursue her interests, in particular researching the history of her family. In her later years she also returned to the world of work to act as my secretary and support me in running my own business.
Julia coped cheerfully with the symptoms of this degenerative illness, undergoing surgery several times to repair the damage the illness caused to her joints, but her mobility gradually deteriorated. In 2018 we decided to leave our family home in Felixstowe to move to a bungalow that we could fully adapt to meet Julia’s needs. We found our perfect home in Elmswell, and Julia spent her final three + years here very happily, enjoying the freedom that a fully adapted house gave her and watching the birds, the dogs and the grandchildren (now 10) playing in the garden.
I have shared below some photos of Julia that are particularly special to our family. I would like to invite all those who knew her to share any photos, comments or reminiscences of their own.
Funeral arrangements: Julia's body will be received into the church at 12.15pm for family and friends to spend some quiet time should they so wish.
Julia left two particular wishes:
1: It should be a cheerful celebration and there should be some colour in what people wear, i.e. not entirely black.
2: Julia loved nature and was very keen that flowers should be enjoyed in the garden and in the wild. So we ask that you choose one of the charities rather than send flowers.
Please let me know, through this site, if you would like to come to the funeral service and also the wake. If you wish to reply for more than yourself please send an email to me at paul.fairacre@gmail.com
With our best wishes to you all – Paul.
