It was a special occasion at St Mark’s today as the church was packed with family and friends wishing to pay their respects to David Wood. Every once in a while, you come across somebody special – on joining St Mark’s congregation I was lucky enough to come across two very special people … and they were married to each other! David will be sadly missed by Mary and their whole family. David was the exemplary patriarch of the family. I consider myself fortunate to be able to say that David was my friend and he was kind enough to be a friend to anyone in need. When I think of St Mark’s I think of David – he has been such a stalwart and a constant during my time here. Today was, indeed, a celebration of his life and we must all treasure the memories we have of him. One of several memories that stand out in my mind was when David helped me out during a family service – the vicar was stood in front of the altar with a cricket bat and David approached from the crossing with a sponge ball which he bowled to the vicar! I wish I had a photo of that!!! However, I did discover a few that were hidden amongst my archives – happy memories. RIP David
