In loving memory of Graham Rhys Carver who sadly passed away on 9th October 2021.
Graham faced his cancer with the same courage, positivity and humour that he did with everything else in life. No problem was ever insurmountable whether it be work, friends or family. We all loved him for his smile, humour and dependability. His 19 year career in the Royal Navy brought out his true potential and he was immensely proud to have served his country and to have achieved so much. He always looked forward to reminiscing at annual reunions with his old shipmates and is remembered for being fun to be with. As one of his old shipmates recently said, ‘Toasty (his naval nickname) was always a good run ashore’. This reputation carried on when he left the Navy and we moved to York in 1987 to start the next chapter of our lives. Graham was always a fun person to be with right until the end as I’m sure many friends and family will testify.
Graham loved to be around people, being involved in local community groups whether or not simply for enjoyment or roles such Treasurer, IT Problem Fixer or anything else he could help with. Despite all his many activities Graham always had time for family. He was a much loved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend and will leave a big void in all our lives.
The courage Graham showed in the last few weeks of his life would not have been so easy had it not been for the professionalism, kindness and support shown by the Macmillan Team and St Leonard’s Hospice at Home Team, not just to Graham but to the whole family. Me and our sons Andrew and Mark are so grateful we were able to be with him at home in his final hours. I have set up a Just Giving page for both these amazing charities for anybody who would like to make a donation. Thank you.
