"Though she be but little, she is fierce" - Shakespeare, A Midsummer Night's Dream
This page has been set up in loving memory of Jane Caroline Savidge O'Halloran who sadly passed away on 21st October 2021. Jane was a beloved wife, mother, Nanna, daughter, sister and loyal friend to so many.
Born at the Royal Free Hospital, Islington, in July 1960 to Margaret and Eric, Jane grew up in the north London area of Gospel Oak. She attended La Sainte Union girls' school, and was an active member of the Anaconda swim club, a hobby she kept up for the rest of her life, and one that gave her many lifelong friends.
In 1981, she married Dave, her "hubby" and the man she often described as her rock. That same year they moved from London to purchase their first house on Dovercliff Road in Canvey Island. This house would go on to be the setting of many happy years and memories together, as well their loving home with their three children, Liam, Sinead and Anna, who even after they had grown up and long moved out, still referred to it as "our house".
Jane had many different jobs throughout her lifetime but most will remember her many years as a swimming instructor, teaching hundreds of children to swim, or her job as a Teaching Assistant where her favourite part of her role was teaching the children to read.
Jane loved to travel and was able to see much of the world. From teenage holidays to Ireland and the Isle of Wight, to family camping holidays in France in the 90s, to travelling by train across Vietnam, cruises down the Nile, or trips to Europe with friends, there was always an adventure to be had.
Since her first cancer diagnosis in autumn 2017, Jane was the epitome of strength and courage in her battle to take on the disease, facing many twists and turns, and soldiering through an array of treatment methods. Even through this trying time, Jane made sure to always have lots of time with family and friends, ensuring that the door was always open, the kettle was always on and she was always ready for a chat.
In the last few months of her life, Jane was able to celebrate her 40th wedding anniversary with Dave, watch her two daughters, Sinead and Anna get married, spend many weeks with her son, Liam, whilst he was home several times from Canada, and become a proud Nanna to baby Albie.
Jane's family would like to thank all of you for your kindness, care and prayers over the last days, months and years.
All are welcome to join us in celebrating Jane's life on Tuesday 23rd November. The venue details and timings for the church, crematorium and wake can be found on this page. It is not required to wear black, but Jane did request that everyone wear something red if possible - her favourite colour. There is a button below to let the family know if you are attending.
In lieu of flowers, Jane's family would like to ask that you donate this money instead to Haven's Hospice who supported Jane throughout her illness, or the Brain Tumour Research trust (links to both can be found on this page).
