Val was born & raised in Nottingham and spent her entire life living in and around the city.
Initially a secretary at Boots, she gave up work to raise a family, then returned to work at Corson's Chemist in Hucknall until her retirement.

An amateur wine maker, she won national awards for her creations and was a member of the Hucknall wine circle for many years together with her friend Ida who was also successful in this field.

Square dancing was another passion of hers and she travelled many miles with Bill to participate.

When they weren't busy with the family, Bill and Val were keen sailors and belonged to the sailing section of the Camping & Caravanning Club. Bill loved to go on flotilla holidays around the Greek isles and Val was a willing crew member for him.

Although less mobile in her later years, she could still be seen around the estate walking Mylo alongside her friend Jean, until a fall restricted her exploits further.
