In loving memory of Edwin Thomas Jones who sadly passed away on 18th September 2021.

Eddie was born in India, Cawnpore, on 20th April, 1939. He came to the UK when he was 17 and did his National Service before he married Della on 6th October 1962.
He was a Welder and Fabricator all his working life until he retired at 65.
He is survived by 3 children, Michael, Lorraine and Rodney, and 4 grandchildren, Scot, Michelle, Andrew and Asha, and his loving wife Della.
Most of his life he was a very active badminton player and coach, and continued this after retirement, coaching hundreds of juniors, and running a successful junior badminton club for 10 years.
He will be sadly missed.

The family would prefer donations for our chosen charity "Friends of Hammersmith Hospital" rather than buying flowers.

It’s been a few years since Eddie left I but I stil cherish the enthusiasm and spirit he had to coach Badmington for kids. You will always be remembered.

Hi Mick in heaven, although we have spent 48 years in Canada, every time we visited England we always made sure we visited you and Dollar. You always had a wonderful sense of humour and would joke with us. When I visited alone, you would ask me to help on your computer, and what little I knew, which was very little, I would show you. We will miss not seeing you when we visit next but will keep you in our prayers and also your family. I am sure you are teaching other souls badminton, which you really excelled in. I always referred to you as our brother-in-law as you married our sister/second mother Dollar. Goodbye brother-in-law, Rest In Peace.
Lots of love & Gods blessings

So many happy memories of playing karams at Christmas, watching slide slows and cramming into cars to go down to the caravan in Wittering.

Mick was also instrumental in getting me back to playing badminton at Hounslow Manor school and then at the Dome.

RIP

Jean

A wonderful person. I can remember going to his house as a child and coming out with a badminton racket, shuttlecocks and nets. He would re-string rackets too for us as kids. Badminton is my daughters favourite game and he encouraged her to play.

Thank you Eddie for all you’ve done for the youth of badminton in Hounslow and the surround arrears over the many many years - you have given kids a place to enjoy and grow through badminton RIP

Saturday Smashers wrote

Eddie was our founder of our junior badminton club called Saturday Smashers based at the Hounslow Dome. Without him, Saturday Smashers would not be here. Without his utmost determination and dedication, Saturday Smashers would not have been the success that it is today.
He had never taken a day off running the club. He had given the club his top most priority over anything else, come rain or shine and even when he's not feeling well. His wife, Della, has also contributed to the success of the club by giving him unwavering support no matter what the circumstances.

He took great pride in all his children (Michael, Rodney, Lorraine) and their respective professional and sporting achievements. He was equally very proud of his grandchildren (Scott, Michelle, Andrew, Aysha) and their respective academic accomplishments. He shared with me a lot of funny stories of his good old days when he was working in the industry. I shall miss hearing those stories again.

In our club, he is loved by all the coaches and adored by the children. He made everyone felt so welcomed being in the club.

His Club Christmas parties are legendary, with lots of much food and drinks. The prizes that he spent on trophies for the children of the club is enormous. He was our club's Father Christmas and all the children at the club have the biggest grins on their faces after the Christmas party.

He's warm, very kind, generous and very helpful to all: coaches, parents and children.
He's helped me a lot, not just for the club issues/business, but also other personal matters, e.g. DIY advice of sorts.

When he retired from running our club and asked me to take over, his advice to me was that keep up giving a fair opportunity to all children to participate in the sport irrespective of their abilities, including those on benefits from the government. He said to me once: " children should not be excluded just because their parents are on benefits. Let them play for free." That's sums up how kind a heart Eddie has.
In fact, a lot of the principles of our club still exist since the beginning when Eddie first started the club. His legacy will live on in our club.

He's like an adopted elder brother to me and I shall miss him, miss his advice and most of all miss his wicked sense of humour.

Thank you, Eddie, for everything that you have given us.

We, especially I, shall miss you.

William at Saturday Smasher Junior Badminton Club

Have fond memories as a child you always took us out with your kids in the car on day trips. On on occasion you and Della took us to Richmond Deer Park and one of the Deers stuck it’s head right in the open car window near me. I was terrified you laughed , that was your cheeky sense of humour! Also very fond memories of lots of holidays at the caravan in Hayling Island as kids. You were so generous to let us join you all. I also remember the whole family about 15 of us ! piling in to the small caravan complete with curry and rice . How it remained on its bricks il never know🤷‍♀️. Thank you Mick for your generosity and kindness. RIP Vio xx

R.I.P. Uncle Mick. A wonderful uncle and, as many have mentioned already, a committed Badminton coach, who even managed to entice me onto the court! Your passion for the game and your all round calm nature will be greatly missed. **photo circa 1973**

Eddie was the most wonderful gentleman I met in my very early days as a potential badminton player. I met him through my Pa, Dennis Russell when I came to the sports hall with him on Saturday nights. Dad introduced me to Eddie, Della, Ron and Anna Holloway, our dear Arthur and Margaret Stevens, and all their respective children. When I started learning the sport, Eddie was just so patient with me, and have me the confidence to progress to a good level of play, and ultimately invited me to join the HMBC, whilst playing for another club. Best move I ever made. I have very fond memories of Eddie, and he'll always have a very special place in my heart and memory.

Safe journey to your better place, Eddie, please say hi to my pa and Arthur for me, and forever RIP 🙏

Rest in peace Mick. You will be sadly missed by your family, friends and the numerous young children who enjoyed being taught the game of badminton by you. You could have taught the queen how to play the game if you had taken her up on her invitation to attend her garden party, that would have been a great talking point. Never mind at least you received an invitation. Rest in peace Mick
