I have set up this area in loving memory of my darling husband, best friend, and partner in crime Matt who sadly and peacefully passed away on 4th August 2021 at Maidstone Hospital. Whilst Matt had been poorly for some time, his death at the age of 42 was unexpected and a shock for the whole family, we all miss him so so much.

I cannot begin to describe how wonderful Matt was. He was exceptionally kind, generous, loving and a little bit crazy! I’m sure if you are visiting this page you have some happy memories or funny stories to share, please leave your anecdotes as the family and I would love to read them.

I’m sure many of you will be aware of Matt’s true passions of Everton FC and Only Fools and Horses. I will miss reciting endless episodes of the antics of Del Boy and Rodney with him but will leave the Match of the Day coverage and the endeavours of the Toffees to others!

Matt’s funeral will be taking place on Monday 6th September at 11.45am at Vinters Park Crematorium, Maidstone. This will be followed straight after by a get together to celebrate Matt’s life at Bearsted Golf Club, Ware Street, Maidstone, ME14 4PQ.

We are planning to have flowers from immediate family only at the funeral as we thought it would be good to raise some money for the Kent Air Ambulance in Matt’s memory as they worked so hard with their colleagues to try to save his precious life. If you wish to kindly contribute you can do so on this site, but most of all please use this area to share memories of our Matt.

On behalf of our family I would like to thank you all for the love, kindness and support you have given at this very difficult time. Let’s all remember the many good times we shared with Matt together.

Much love
Rachel xxxx

It is so sad that you are no longer with us and that you were not here to see all the love that your family and friends have for you.
Our mutual love of food and eating large take away orders (sometimes very quickly!) will be the greatest thing we had in common. We agreed that the next time you were in Weston that we would complete the fish and chip challenge at Winstons. I will take one for the team and make sure I will do it twice for both of us.
Our choice in football clubs was very different, but a shared passion for the game was always apparent, evident whenever you shared your glee at Everton getting a result (minus the two losses against Newcastle last season!).
My overriding memory will be the ability to know the full scripts to all Only Fools and Horses episodes. Sitting listening to you and Katy completing the lines together was quiet amazing, you would have been the perfect double act to have stood in, if the London theatre production lost all its actors and actresses.

Found this poem for a true blue :
Lift your head please no more tears,
And think of all those happy years.
I’m in a place that I’m content,
To me Everton heaven I’ve been sent.
Where Everton fans live on forever,
Loyal and true we’re all together.
And in my heaven of royal blue,
I wear a smile and think of you.
Every game that Everton play,
These fans are with them all the way.
Cheering on from high above,
For the boys in blue the team we love.
So live your life and please don’t dwell,
And be at peace I’m safe and well.
Amongst my friends decked out in blue,
In my Everton heaven, I wait for you.

Rest well Matthew, until we meet (& eat) again.
Roger

We are so sorry to lose such a long-standing friend and colleague. Diane remembers training us on our first day at KCC and we knew right away we had found a good friend.

You provided us with lots of joy and tales that had us laughing until our sides hurt.

We will treasure all the memories and will make sure we raise a glass to you to remember our times in the pub.

Now, do some work Chalmers!

Love Burt and Smiffy

I still can't believe your gone. 12 years of friendship and I wouldn't change that for the world.
I'll cherish the memories we created for the rest of my life, my favourite being attending your wedding reception and seeing you and Rachel so happy.
To many you were a colleague but I'm thankful you were a good friend we were so lucky to have you in our lives.

This isnt goodbye this is I'll see you again.

From the bottom of my heart thank you for being my friend and for being there.

Sleep well until we meet again

Oh Chuckles, I am absolutely devastated at your passing. At least I had the privilege of knowing you, but above all, to have been able to call you a very good friend.
It's taken me so long to write a message, I just dont want to believe it's true.
You were funny, kind, thoughtful, generous, told it how it was....you were McChuckles! (And every other name I had for you!)
You loved your beer and your burgers, takeaways, and food was our favourite topic to talk about, always asking eachother 'what's for dinner! You were frustratingly fussy and I would moan at you for making 'the old girl' cook different dinners!
We loved a cheeky breakfast too!
As many have said, you had an orchard on your desk and a drawer full of chocolate; balanced diet!?
You really enjoyed me singing Christmas carols to you throughout the year, and 'jarring your swede in!'
You and Rachel were a lovely couple and complemented eachother perfectly. I'm so glad to have joined your wedding day celebrations!
I could go on, but we all know what a wonderful and unique human you were!

I will miss our chats so much and kick myself that we never got to have that last drink.
Instead, I will test your 'pear theory' and raise many a glass to you.
You will forever be in my heart and my thoughts.
I promise to be there for Rachel too.

Rest in peace x x x

I am so saddened to learn of your passing Matt.

You were a great friend and colleague for many years. You brought more than you will ever have known to everyone that was lucky enough to know and work with you, with your generosity and humour (and desk full of fruit). You always showed such kindness and support, of course with a side portion of welcome banter.

I am still processing the fact that we have had our final “cheeky” Wetherspoon’s Burger and Beer lunchtime catch-up. You always knew when these were much needed.

Rachel, you have been and will continue to be in my thoughts, as will your families. I am so terribly sorry for your loss of a wonderful Husband, Son, Brother and Uncle.

Rest In Peace Matthew x
