John, through the words of his loving Daughter Ann.

Dad was a sole parent and we lived with my Grandparents, so because of this, he became not just my Dad but my best friend. He was kind, thoughtful, generous, wise and hardworking. He was a hospital porter at Retford, Victoria, Bassetlaw and then Retford hospitals before he retired, a job which he loved, and was very well thought of by the other staff.

When he retired in 2000 he wanted to go on holiday to New York which we did, a place he always wanted to visit.
He drove around in a three wheeler for many years which, if I'm honest, embarrassed me, but it certainly got us from A to B, even London a couple of times.
He loved his DIY, his gardening and reading his kindle books.

We decided to get a small dog after having cats for years.
We still have Sammy, although my dog, they both loved each other very much and Sammy would sit on his knee for hours while watching his favorite programme, Last of the Summer Wine, and we would go on daytrips taking him with us, the local coach company allowed it.
One year we took Sammy and stayed in a caravan with the most beautiful weather all week.
I have been to some beautiful places abroad but I can safely say, that was the best holiday ever, giving me precious memories.
