In loving memory of Charles Day who sadly passed away on 4th August 2021.

My dad was affectionately known as Wally in his younger years. You may remember him as this.

Dad was born in Hastings and grew up there with his parents and brother. His dad died young, his mum remarried. His brother also died young, leaving his young son, Bryan, behind, dad's nephew.

When dad left school he joined the Merchant Navy and trained as a chef. After this he had various jobs but ended up in Godalming in the early 70s where he met my mum. He married Pauline in 1972. Around 1975 they moved to Crawley.

Dad, Charles, worked at the Crematorium in Crawley when I was born in 1980. He loved fishing and used to take me with him, in fact he used to take me everywhere. He also loved his CB radio and anything naval too.

Dad left the Crematorium in 1985 and had a brief job at Gatwick Airport until he and mum split in early 1986.

Dad moved to Southampton and settled in Romsey where he worked, and lived, as a chef at The White Horse Hotel. He stayed here till he retired in the early 2000s. He then moved to Dibden Purlieu into sheltered accommodation at Muir House. Dad lived there until about 3/4 years ago when he moved to Lymington to Solent Mead Care Home to see out his final years.

Dad was a spiritual soul, who loved good food, he had a wicked/cheeky sense of humour. He loved a bargain. In later years he discovered Jewish and Romany roots from his parents which added to his open spirit. He will be missed but always remembered.

Our last photo and time seeing each other. Oct 2019. Thankfully I got down to see him prepandemic. I am so glad I did. The care home took this photo and I never saw it until I collected his stuff after he died. He was struggling with dementia by now.

With living up north I didn't get down much but when I did it was special. This was in 2015, I didn't know it at the time but I was pregnant with dad's second grandchild.

Not dad's motorbike but still couldn't resist the photo opportunity with me when he took me to his work.
