Ted, not only were you a joy to have on any stage crew but I will always be forever grateful for the time you spent visiting my dad in hospital during his final weeks. Thank you Ted. Clare Shields and family

Hope to meet you up there soon, Ted. Won't be long as I was much older than Ted

I was in the St John Ambulance division with Ted for many years. Sadly, the sort of interesting duties he chose to do allowed no time for photographs! He was good to work with as you could always depend on him and was good company too. I was very sad to hear the news as he kept in touch with other members for years.

Amongst his other interests Ted became a member of the Scout Association when he joined the Nationwide Scout Communications Team a number of years ago. He was often the first to volunteer to help at a number of our events including the Chase Walk, Great Midlands Fun Run and the 2 St Giles Hospice events we also supported. He was always such a ‘happy chappy’ and I for one always knew he had arrived when someone walked into the control room announcing ‘Greetings Folks’.

At our last Chase Walk in 2020 (a 40 mile walking event around Cannock Chase for some 600 Scouts from around the country) he was that keen to carry on helping, despite having moved from Streetly to Nottingham, that unbeknown to us until the day he had booked himself a hotel room locally so that he could be at his checkpoint in plenty of time for his 7am start.

Ted was a true gent, a genuinely nice person, and an absolute pleasure to work with.

On behalf of the Scouts Communications Team, and I am sure on behalf of those events to which he was a fantastic support to, Thank you Ted, you will be sadly missed.

Roger Stocks
Deputy Team Leader – Nationwide Scout Communications Active Support Unit
