In loving memory of Marie Fray who sadly passed away on 20th July 2021.
Marie was born in Derby and grew up in Margate. During the war she was evacuated to Resolven in Wales where she made friends for life. She moved back to Margate after the war to live with her parents where she used to sell ice cream at Margate lido. When her father got a job at Shorts in Medway they all moved back there. She got a job in the department store Bates where she worked her way up to First Sales Person. She met my Dad at a dance at Chatham Town Hall. Dad walked her home to Gillingham and then walked all the way back to where he lived in Strood. They got married in February 1957 and moved in to a flat in Union Street, Rochester. Then bought the house we all grew up in Wouldham Road in 1961 and never moved. Ninna was born there in June 1962 and Michael in March 1965. They had to wait until August 1972 for their next "bundle of joy" Matthew but he was born in All Saints hospital. Mum learnt how to drive at her 5th attempt. She was very determined. That gave her the independence to get around by herself. Although she did spend a lot of time driving us around too. She started working as a dinner lady at the Rochester Math School in 1984. Where she stayed until she had a serious accident (falling from the loft) in 2005.
