We thank everybody who has sent messages of love and support and those who will attend/ attended the celebration of Dads life and his send off.
Dad was without doubt a wonderful and caring man who never forgot who helped him. With this in mind Dad wanted The Horder Centre for arthritis at Crowborough to be supported with donations.
He, as many, was treated there as an NHS patient for all 3 of his hips!
Dad was given his first right hip replacement on Pauls 21st birthday! (20/02/1997) and managed to walk me up the aisle just over a month later!
The Horder replaced Dads left hip in September 1997.
Hip replacement surgery is something that can change someones life. Dad was just shy of 60 years old when he had his first surgery. This enabled him to remain the active man he had always been, continue playing top quality golf, keep his (and my!) gardens looking lovely and run after the ever increasing brood of grandchildren. To be able to continue driving and enjoying days out with Mum.
All of these things he wouldn't have been able to do with out the swift intervention and superb pre and post care provided by The Horder.
Dad went on to have a 'remedial' of his right hip in 2015. No mean feat for a gentleman of 78 years old. A remedial (or replacement of a replacement) is a much bigger and more traumatic operation. Paul likened the xray pictures to those you see of Barry Sheene (a motorbike racer) Again the superb team of experts in arthritis gave my Dad all that he needed to be able to (albeit quite hobbling) stay mobile and active.
We have also listed Arthritis Action as a charity Dad supported. They are the only U.K arthritis charity giving hands on practical help to improve the lives of people affected by arthritis.
Dad was always an animal lover and was upset by the unnecessary ill treatment of innocent animals.
The PDSA not only provides 48 pet hospitals throughout the UK, it also provides low cost and free veterinary care to the sick and injured pets of people in need.
The PDSA also promotes responsible pet ownership by providing resources for schools, activity packs for children and free talks.
The value of having a pet in ones advancing years cannot be underestimated.
I fully support the PDSA for helping to educate the young and support all to enable pets are cared for appropriately.
We give our heartfelt thanks to you all
Pam, Paul and Catherine xx
