In loving memory of Robert Charles Fletcher who sadly passed away on 26th June 2021 at home with his loving wife and 3 children.
Bob was a loving, devoted, hard working family man. He leaves his wife of 46 years; Jan, his 3 children; Jenny, Karen and Adam, 5 grandchildren; Lauren, Harry, Max, Rory and Alex who Bob fondly referred to them as his lovelies and his sister Frances.
Bob devoted his life to his true love Jan from the day they met to his final day. However, from young Bob had another true love, his football, this would be the only reason Bob would attend school "no school, no football!". He played many a game and won many a trophy! Once he left school he would train at the West Ham grounds with the likes of Bobby Moore and Geoff Hurst. He was signed to play for Charlton, but an unfortunate injury forced him to retire early from professional football. Bob did manage to carry on for many years playing for small league teams, where he helped win leagues and made many friends. After his playing days, he helped manage a young boys football team; Concord Rangers, helping young boys to fulfil their football ambitions. These young boys now men still look to Bob with the highest regard and admiration. He managed to touch people's hearts in way that made him so fondly thought of and loved. He was always true to his word, which made people admire him.
Bob had a great way with words, which became a joke among family and friends where they became known as " Boberisms ", the funny thing about these, you knew the words he was meaning!
Bob devoted his life to his family where he'd work long days and hours to help provide and support them, he never gave up, even when occasionally times were hard. He managed to find his strength and found something fun in the tough times and the good times. But these were always faced together as a family and with the support of his dedicated loving wife Jan.
Bob worked at the Royal Mail dedicating 30 years of his working life; where he had a varied career, delivering mail, to sorting mail, to many varied manager roles. Bob finally retired in 2019, where he and Jan began retired life in their new home.
Unfortunately 2020 Bob was diagnosed with Cancer, which was the most devastating news he and his family had faced. Bob again found true strength and courage by himself as his character and the support of family. Bob undertook surgery and had many sessions of chemotherapy, he had some great news in a review the chemo was showing positive signs, however, not long after Bob suffered a set back, an alternative treatment was offered however, unfortunately this was not successful, with the help and promise of Jan, her children and the wonderful, dedication, care and support of Hospice at Home via Havens Hospice Bob's wishes were met and he peacefully passed away. As a family we cannot thank Havens enough in the help and support they provided.
Bob will always be remembered for the true, loving, caring, devoting, fun, charismatic man he was. Whoever he met, he made ever lasting memories and a story to tell, but most of all people often refer to Bob as the man who offered support and help. He never refused to offer his help or support to anyone who needed it. He was a true selfless man who had a heart of gold.
