Neville Watson (20 Sep 1955 - 28 Jun 2021)
Funeral Director
In loving memory of Neville Watson who sadly passed away on 28th June 2021.
Born in London, one of eight children, Neville lived a varied and interesting life. He left a lasting impression on all those he met. His sense of humour and passion for life filled the room and it was impossible not to know he was there. He was a one-off character. Once known, never forgotten.
His outgoing nature is evidenced by his enormous circle of friends and all those who loved to know him, whether that be for a coffee in the town, in the borough council chamber or, in earlier years, standing alongside him in the armed services.
They'll recall his stories from his 30 years of driving a London black taxi where he met some of his closest friends. He regularly had us all in hysterical laughter as he recalled his passengers, his experiences and his working life in London.
As a borough councillor, Neville fought passionately for residents and for Canvey Island, even on some occasions being asked to leave the Council chamber by the mayor!
Neville cared about others deeply and his passion for local politics allowed him to act on that. His generosity was felt by all.
In his personal life, Neville was dedicated to his family. He loved his children and grandchildren passionately. Those who knew him will know of his love and deep devotion to his wife, Grace. You’d rarely see them apart. He protected and supported them all.
Having experienced a severe hypoxic brain injury in 2016, Neville valiantly fought on as he did throughout his life. He spent that time sharing precious moments with his family and still making them laugh with his amazing sense of humour.
This page could be filled many times over with the stories and experiences we’ve all had with Neville. A big hole will be left in our lives without him.
We understand many of you have asked about sending flowers for the funeral. The entire family are grateful and would ask that, instead, donations are made to Dementia UK. We really want to help find a cure to this terrible disease.
Neville will be leaving from his house on 15th July 2021 at 2pm. Those who wish to pay their respects are welcome to do so from the house. Unfortunately, due to current restrictions we’re unable to have you all at the crematorium, as much as we’d love to do so.
