Michael Canning (16 Aug 1980 - 22 Jun 2021)
Michael sadly passed away on the 22nd of June after a long battle with MND. He was surrounded by family, with my mum and dad holding his hand and comforting him when he finally passed away.
As everyone knows, Mick was a fun loving, charismatic and all-round amazing guy, the love he had for his friends and family was either shown through affection and/or 20 Jagar bombs at the bar. He was the life and soul of any party and would often be found doing "the dance" - which epitomised his attitude to life.
Mick was brought up in the Southside of Glasgow, he was an amazing brother and son and the fun we had growing up will live with us all forever. In his early years he was often found in A&E due to his "I’ll do it" attitude. He was the local crash test dummy and would take on ramps, jumps and anything that involved an element of danger - which often ended up in a bandage or stookie!
He loved football and was found on most weekends flying into tackles and trying crazy flicks and tricks that infuriated his team-mates! He played for many local teams including Shawlands, Bankhead and made life-long friends through football. Friendship was a theme in Micks life, he was a friend to many, but was blessed to have an amazing close friendship group who have been there for him through thick and thin "The Magaluf 5".
Away from football and Jager bombs Mick was a joiner to trade and was often seen with bits of wood hanging out his Mini Cooper window doing homers. Much to the amusement of his friends and family!! He moved off the tools many years later and moved into Site Management that took him across the country for months at a time but always found time for his friends and family when he came home.
Micks other passion in life was his dogs, Zac and Ruby – he loved those dogs more than anything and was heartbroken when they both passed away in the last few years.
Sadly, Mick was diagnosed with this horrible illness back in 2018 – he never complained about his illness, he would just put on a smile and get on with things. Even at the end when things were extremely difficult, and he required full time care his amazing attitude to life and big smile was always on show – that and his amazing, never out of place hair! Which even at the end was his pride and joy and would require fixing before he left the house.
There truly are no words to describe our beloved Mick – he was one in a million. He meant so much to so many different people and we will all have memories to cherish for a lifetime.
Rest in peace buddy
