Funeral Director
In loving memory of Daniel James Green who passed away suddenly on 4th June 2021 aged 47 years.
He liked to be known as Dan rather than Danny (too diminutive) or Daniel (too formal) and was a man of many contrasting talents and attributes. Although his struggles with mental illness perhaps prevented him from realising the full potential of his abilities, he nevertheless had a number of happy years with his wife Marion, who supported him and his work both during their marriage and after it had ended.
He has left a legacy of creative work from his interests in photography, music and written texts as well as memories from his time spent helping charities supporting those with mental health issues such as Rethink and social welfare needs at The Megacentre in Rayleigh, where he helped set up and run the Dad’s and Kids Club.
He also supported youth clubs and initiatives run by local organisations, such as the Rayleigh Bar & Bus, to help other young people find their way through the difficulties of adolescence.
Whilst at school, his exceptional memory and ability to pass exams without apparently doing much work was a source of frustration to his teachers (and his parents). As a teenager, he taught himself to play bass guitar and was soon gigging locally with the nascent heavy rock band Torment. He later studied lead guitar skills more formally to the extent that he became a registered guitar tutor.
He also worked as a photographer, having obtained qualifications through evening class study and held an exhibition of his photographic work at The Mill Hall, Rayleigh in 2007. During his time working for Rethink helping people recovering from mental illness into employment, he obtained his Certificate of Higher Education (Cert HE) in youth and community work.
Sadly, during the last few years of his life, his illness prevented him following his creative and musical interests as the problems of day-to-day living became ever more difficult.
Unfortunately, under the government’s pandemic measures, numbers attending the chapel in person will be strictly limited and will be by invitation only.
