I’m not a writer but sometimes it’s important to have a go. As Steve often reminds me all I use an ecerskryvh.

I remember Ted always tanned with that beaming smile often with 6 o’clock g and t in hand.

I remember the delicious aroma emanating from the kitchen when you were cooking up one of your world famous curries.

I remember the company car he blagged that Ste and I used to try and look cool cruising around ravo in.

I remember when the back axel of the consentina dropped off when john was “driving it “ and you didn’t hit the roof.

I remember how cool you air rifle and scope were.  I also remember Ste and I certainly never touched it without asking.

I remember how relaxed your homr felt to hang out in.

I remember when I rang and you answered the landline and you called upstairs for Ste to come and he fell down the stairs.

I remember the pride you had being Ste’s best man and how  lovably nervous you were giving that great speech.

I remember thinking what a cool dad you must be.  I’m not embarrassed to say I remember being a tiny bit jealous of that.

I remember how clearly devoted you were to Meg and what a great team you made.

I will Always remember you gave me a lifelong friend in Steve.

Take it easy ted. Miss you loads big man.  Love from the HD’s.  Xxxxx

An Ode to Ted

Nobody is the same somebody to everybody.

To me you were my fun loving, sun seeking, red wine drinking father in law.
You were the only person I would sit through a Steven Seagal movie for!

You were a creature of habit: an early evening bath, a G&T, the news, then dinner followed by precisely four crackers with cheese.

To our children you were Pops, the granddad that greeted them with warm welcome,
the person who liked to retire to his special chair in the conservatory to listen to Country music.

And whilst Shania Twain did not impress them much, the sound of the lid lifting from Pops’ secret biscuit jar was music to their ears!

To Steve you were his best man, you passed on your DIY skills, the need for a project, a passion for sales, love of the gym and the ability to pick an excellent life partner!

I cannot speak for Meg or John and his gang, but I know we all enjoyed a family Sunday lunch, BBQ or buffet whenever they were on offer at 11A.

Thank you for welcoming me into the family Ted and thanks also for not getting cross when I accidently broke the kids’ bed!

May you rest in peace in the conservatory in the sky.
Tonight and in the future I will raise a glass of red to my favourite father in law Ted!

Meg, Ste, John and family. I will always remember Ted as an amazing man who was always full of life, fun and an appreciation for the sun. In my younger years he was my 2nd dad, giving advice (albeit usually ignored by both Ste and I) and generally looking out for me. Ted will be sorely missed by everyone that had the privilege to know him. My thoughts are with you all. X

Aunty Meg, Steven and John, and your loved ones. I am sad for your loss of a great man.
Uncle Ted - I am going to miss you. It was impossible to not be loving life when you were in the mix.
As long as we hold you in our memories and our hearts, our glasses will never empty.
