In loving memory of Valerie Lake who sadly passed away on 23rd May 2021.
Valerie was born on 30th September 1935 in Isleworth, Middlesex to Alice Phoebe Aston (formerly Boon) and Charles Walter Aston. Her grandfather gave her mum a home (Manoel Road, Twickenham) as a wedding gift, one she stayed in till she was married. During the war she was evacuated to Gloucester. Her mother Phoebe worked in various charities, married at 40 (to a 20 year old soldier) and learned to drive at 75 and lived to 96 years old having been born in the Victorian era 1899. Her father was a Coldstream Guardsman and worked for Watney's brewery till the later 1960's, he died in the 70's. Valerie married Colin Arthur Lake on 30th March 1957. They adopted two children Stuart (1961) and Fiona (1964). Initially they brought up the children in Twickenham, then moved to Winchester, then Solihull, and then Crawley. It was in Crawley that Fiona met Paul Matten and they married and had Jason Matten (now aged 34). Stuart went onto University and met Rachel. Unfortunately Fiona died of cancer aged 24. Valerie and Colin moved to Redhill in the early 1990's buying a three storey townhome. Stuart and Rachel married in April 1998 in Jamaica and subsequently lived in the Netherlands, USA and Argentina. Stuart and Rachel have three children Gabrielle (21) , Dominic (19) and Tamara (16). Valerie led a full life and had many close friends over time and relatives. She worked in a variety of roles for the Government and Private Industry before retiring having moved from Redhill back to Horley in 1997. Colin died in 2010 (aged 82) after a long illness. Valerie health deteriorated in the last 18 months and the family, Britannia healthcare professionals and friends (notably Eliza) regularly looked after her in those last 18 months. The very last two months were in a care home (Smallbrook) after being released from a brief stay in hospital as she needed 24/7 care, she died peacefully on 23rd May at 3.18 am. Both Fiona and Colin lie in plot CV-92 at Surrey Crematorium. Valerie had lastly expressed that her ashes be placed at the same location as her daughter and husband. Valerie leaves behind a son (Stuart), a daughter in law (Rachel), and son in law (Paul and he wife Susan), four direct grandchildren and a great grandchild to Jason and Adelaide named Alba (aged 1).
Valerie was not wanting flowers but if anyone would like to donate she supported - Cancer Research UK as both Fiona and Valerie had cancer.
Rest in Peace Mum. XXX
