Written by a friend of mine:

A walk … continued

The world celebrated upon a victory;
The ending of a great war
In the shadows of those revelries
Quietly, a walk began

Ralf and Olive
Started a simple walk
That covered over sixty-five years
A soldier and a Mum

They filled their walk with love
Ralf filled the house with music
Olive filled it with children
David, Peter, Angela, Martin, and Mandy

Side by side they walked
Hand in hand they lived
Heart in heart they loved
Two into one they became

The laughter of children grew
It was joined by the laughter of grandkids
And even now, by the laughter of great grandkids
From a walk started long ago

Time came that Ralf walked on ahead
But he didn’t go far
He waited, patiently, at the gate
His favorite harmonica in hand

Olive came, not soon after
And once again
Hand in hand
The walk … continued

To Ralf and Olive
Some loves are immortal
