David and I were friends all the way back to September 1978. He was a life long friend and I shall miss him greatly as will many others...
David Michael Wyler (21 Aug 1951 - 3 Mar 2021)
In loving memory of David Michael Wyler who sadly passed away on 3rd March 2021.
David Michael Wyler lead a remarkable and interesting life. Born in Paddington, London to a Polish Mother – Marysia and a Swiss father Michael.
David spent much of his childhood at the Astra Hotel in Nottingham. He was the middle child of three brothers Max his older brother and Johnny his younger. He went to Claremont Primary followed by Becket Grammar School. He was a lovely looking boy with marble like, mischievous eyes and a dark head of hair, bright and well educated.
David left home as a teenager, initially moving to Manchester working as a car salesman, a job which taught him well, leading to a successful career path in Sales and was a Sales Director by his mid-thirties. After Manchester David worked in many cities around the world including Cairo, and Beirut. The latter having a profound impact on him as he witnessed war torn Beirut first hand. He loved Cairo and its people. He’d say ‘it’s dirty, noisy, busy, bustling but it’s ALIVE. In fact Tutankhamun’s Mask in Cairo’s National Museum was the most wonderful thing he’d ever seen and felt so passionately about it he took Louise to see it for their Silver Wedding Anniversary.
David met Louise in Nottingham and they were married for 32 wonderful years. Their first home together was in Weybridge Surrey, however David missed Nottingham where he was most comfortable and at home, they moved back and have lived there ever since.
David adored his 2 Persian cats Joshua and Moses who lived to be 14 and 15 years old. They brought David so much joy and comfort.
Even throughout his illness he remained a very proud and dignified man, fiercely independent never complained nor wanted to be fussed over. Louise was so proud of how David managed his illness and how bravely he fought it. He was her hero.
He was a loving husband, brother, uncle, godfather, brother in law, son in law and friend much loved by us all and he will be greatly missed.
David’s life was filled with so many adventures, he walked many paths and even when he didn’t know where they would lead, he travelled them anyway.
I’m sure everyone will have their own memories, their own magic moments, their own version of how David made their life more vibrant.
For me it was the way he made me feel so special. He had a unique way to celebrate and appreciate everyone’s individuality. It’s no surprise that he had such a large, eclectic, long lasting mix of friends.
David was a charming, unique, sincere and loyal man, a true confidante. Louise valued and will greatly miss his counsel – as will we all. He was highly intuitive and had a great way with words.
He wasn’t a character to fall into the background. Wherever he went the crowd followed! With his great sense of style and charismatic spirit he was the soul of every party.
Throughout his entire life David was meticulous, neat, tidy and very organised. He had even written out the Formula 1 schedule in readiness for this season’s Championship, which he was very fond of.
Music played an incredibly huge part in David’s life and he definitely came through with his endless music recommendations so much so you would be summoned up to his office to listen to the entire live version of the whole album. His passion was unrivalled.
David was generous and had a heart bigger than anyone I knew, but in the end, the only thing and truly the most important thing to David, was his Lou Lou. She was his rock in life and all he ever wanted was for her to be happy and provided for.
Today I say goodbye to my uncle, my God-father, my big frog, but I will continue to bounce through life for you. Your legacy will carry on and your spirit will continue to shine.
