In loving memory of Karina Watson who sadly passed away on 28th February 2021.

Karina was born in Rotherham on the 9th October 1945.

Her mum was Jessie, and her dad was Walter, a steelworker and roofer.

Karina spent happy childhood years in the village of Thrybergh in Rotherham. There she experienced a great outdoor life, looking after family cats and dogs and she was particularly fond of her chickens.

She went to Kimberworth Primary School and flourished at secondary school where she became Head Girl.

After leaving school, Karina’s first job was at Marks & Spencer. She continued to work in retail for many years, becoming head of the hosiery department at Debenhams in Nottingham.

It was 51 years ago when Karina met Brian, whilst on a night out with her friends.

Her recollection was: “It seemed like yesterday when the lovely deep voice said: ‘May I have this dance?’ I replied, ‘Yes’ before turning round to see Brian for the first time.”

They were inseparable for 51 years.

They moved from Rotherham to Grantham where she forged a new life with Brian, making new friends and helping Brian in a new business venture converting the old Spittlegate Mill into a pub & restaurant complex, with a waterwheel feature.

The Kingfisher Pub was on the ground floor. The nightclub was upstairs offering cabaret entertainment featuring popular acts like Keith Harris and Orville, and The Wurzels.

After moving to Nottingham, Karina worked as a personal assistant and secretary, supporting Brian in his career as a financial consultant.

Karina enjoyed accompanying Brian on work conventions. This provided opportunities for travel to far-flung places and to make new friends.

They then moved into a two-bedroom bungalow with a big garden. Together they designed, developed and extended their beautiful home and garden.

Entertaining family and friends here gave them much joy and happiness.

Lifelong friends were an integral part of their lives.

Karina sadly endured poor health these past five years and was extremely stoical in coping.

It is a comfort that she is now at peace and reunited with her beloved Brian.

Karina loved Brian as Brian loved Karina.

Their two lives were entwined together; this is how they will be fondly remembered.
