In loving memory of Stephen Huxtable who sadly passed away on 19th February 2021

Steve, Dad, Pops known to his family & friends sadly lost his fight to Parkinson's Disease, leaving behind his Daughter Lindsey & Sister Joyce and their families.

Steve was a retired Fireman, but loved to read and was the font of all knowledge especially history; often helping with homework or involved in Quiz Nights. He was an amazing artist and despite his Parkinson's still managed to produce some beautiful pieces, some samples of which we have included within the photos section.

Anyone who knew Steve will, I’m sure, have many funny memories. We would love to hear them and see any pictures that you have.

The funeral service will take place at Southend Crematorium on Tuesday, 23rd March 2021 at 3:20pm. A Fire engine will be taking him on his final journey. Family flowers can be sent via S. Stibbards & Sons Ltd, 4 Commonhall Lane, Hadleigh, Benfleet, Essex, SS7 2RN or you can make a donation via this page, all proceeds will go to Parkinsons UK.

Due to the current circumstances, anyone who would like to watch the service live on the day, please let us know.

Our dearest Steve,

Where do I even begin?

You came into our lives and it was literally like you had always been there. Every Wednesday was dinner at ours, you would spend the evening telling us so many fantastic stories, sharing your knowledge and delighting in whatever it was we had cooked for you.. I could have listened to you for hours, and I did.. Thanks to you my appreciation of art grew and I’m sure you’d be proud to know that I took your advice on the acrylics.

If I lived 100 years, I could never repay your kindness. When I had my stroke you came to the hospital every single day with my mum to visit me, I will forever be grateful to you. You shared so much without even realising it and my kids Charlotte and James have such fond memories of you and will carry your wisdom with them forevermore.

We had such fun times Steve, from quizzes to birthday treats, day trips and film fests.. How we hysterically laughed when you pushed me in my wheelchair!

A light has surely gone out in our life. You were one of the best and will always have a place in our hearts. Sleep tight our true gent.. With all our love, Kim, Dave, Charlotte and James xx

Steve, I am so happy I kept my promise to pick you up on a Friday night with my mum and take you both to the caravan. What wonderful times we all had, playing bingo in the pub where you asked me to keep an eye on your numbers too. Listening to the karaoke singers with me and Lisa dragging you out of your seat for a walk round slowly dance. How we all laughed when we all got together for a BBQ, all us ladies wrapped in blankets, yet you never felt the cold. Strolling down Hythe High Street to the art shop with you swinging your stick like Charlie Chaplin.

My kids and grandkids were all so taken with you as were the other kids on the site and in turn you would laugh your socks off at their antics in the paddling pool or chasing each other.

You were a true gent who we will miss so much.. R.I.P Steve, with love, Tracy x x

Steve, you and I met many years ago at an art class, we became firm friends. I introduced you to my family and they all fell in love with you, your good nature, your kindness and your wisdom. Even Sammy and then Pepé fell for your charms, and the treats! You truly were a lovely man, a true gentleman. We spent a lot of time together especially at the caravan, where again you were held in high regard.

Steve, I have missed your company in recent years and I will also miss our weekly calls.. Goodbye my dear friend, rest in eternal peace.. With love.. Ena x x

We had a long journey together brother mine. The wonderful trips we took. How you loved people; The fun, the laughter. Your many kindnesses even to total strangers. Your love for art and history. Your zest for life. I remember those wonderful folks from Tennessee. They thought you were a history professor, because you knew more than their tour guide. How they roared with laughter when you described yourself as an artistic fireman. How you were honored at the fireman 's museum. When they gave you the key and told you make sure you locked up. How they trusted you; the fun we had at the pub afterwards. That last night in Norfork; the promise you made. That song by Greenbaum. You knew your final road would be hard and painful and you faced it with courage and humor. It's okay now Steve, you can go to your spirit in the sky. You have my blessing. Remember the promise
