RIP Allan. We had known each other for some 63 years and were both good friends and truly brothers both in law and in spirit. I have such fond memories of the times and places that we shared together. We gave you a great send off from the other side of the Atlantic and your family did you proud. I'll miss you mate. God bless.

The eulogy I read at the memorial service for Allan, my big bro.

Alan was born in 1946 just after the war, to proud mum and dad Connie and Ernie. He came into the world at 17 Milespit who many of you will know as the spiritual family home. But his early years we all lived together in the flat just across the road at number 36A.
Let me share some of my early memories that I have of Allan with you though.
In the flat underneath us lived a girl called Carol Wellington, she was the same age as Allan. 10 years of age they always planned to get married, what about me are used to cry. Carol's reply was always don't worry you can come and live with us, just the three of us. The innocence of youth eh.
Another memory was when we went to the fair, probably Hampstead heath one Easter. Alan won a goldfish, you have to throw a ping-pong ball into a glass bowl to win. Now Alan had won one so I wanted one. Then surely I managed it, although it is almost impossible to get one of those balls Into that glass bowl. We carried out a new pets home in plastic bags filled with water, how they survived I will never know. Their new home was in a glass bowl on top of the sideboard in our front room.
No picture this, The following morning to little boys gazing up at the goldfish, one was floating on the top, after an age Alan turned to me and said " you're going fish is dead."
Alan went to Dollis junior school then onto Moat Mount, now I wouldn't say Alan was a scholar but he was an athlete. And watch the football he was to. He represented the schools at every level and they won everything. His first love though was Chelsea. And he would have just loved the success they are enjoying at the moment.if things had have been different I really think he could have gone all the way, believe me he was that good.
At 16 he went to Australia for four years and his good friend Malcolm Dolman and they lived there with the Marks family.
When he came back from Australia he worked in an upmarket wine store called Peter Dominic, he progressed there to be the manager.
He was a founder member of the three hammers football team, now we were an okay side. Allan though could have played with anyone on top teams around at the time but he stayed with us as a captain.
His good friends at that time who I must mention where Denis, Phil, Dave Sibley, Steve Flynn and many more who I cannot put names to at the moment.
He didn't just me Doreen who was later to become his wife as we all grew up in the same street, but back from Australia and older they started going out together, fell in love and married.

I would like to finish with a verse his granddaughter Sarar put on Facebook the other day.
God saw you getting tired and a cure was not meant to be
So he put his arms around you and whispered come to me
A golden heart stopped beating and hard-working hands to rest
God broke our hearts to prove to us he only takes the best

From Sarah but echoed by us all
