In loving memory of Sylvia Kathleen Cooper who sadly passed away on 16th February 2021.

Sylvia was born at New Cross Hospital, Wolverhampton, on 1st February 1951 and was the youngest of four to Winnie and Charlie Allen. She grew up in Dudley Street, Bilston, where she lived with her two older brothers, Spencer and Stephen. Sylvia went to school at Stonefields, where she very much enjoyed sports and represented the school at netball and athletics.

The family later moved to St Chads Road in Bilston and it was in September 1968 that her parents took her to Willenhall Liberal Club, where she met her husband Ray. Sylvia and Ray married at St Leonard’s Church in Bilston on 15th April 1972. They had two wonderful children. Firstly Kerry in 1973 and then Greg in 1975. Kerry went on to marry Chris and had two sons Henry and Charlie, who Sylvia absolutely adored.

Sylvia will be sadly missed for her smiling, outgoing nature and Ray, Greg, Kerry, Chris, Henry and Charlie miss her dearly.

How does one put words down on paper when you can't even grasp the reality of losing a friend like Sylv. She had a big personality and a heart to match it. She was kind, generous, and would help anyone who needed it without asking questions.

She was very outspoken and opinionated and we clashed on many occasions, not thinking twice to shout at me if I did something or said something she didn't agree with but after a short time we would fall about laughing and agree to disagree.

We had great holidays together in Feurteventura, just the two of us, and as the years went by our friendship grew and we had many happy times together enjoying each others company and also being comfortable in the silence, both being engrossed in our books and soaking up the sun. Happy days mate.

You would be so proud of Greg, he has been a rock for Ray. I know Kerry has helped enormously too from her home in Germany. They'll be OK, we'll make sure of that.

You were taken too early my friend and I miss you already, however I know as we get back to normality of socialising with the bowls club, its going to feel much worse. I shall miss your laughter, your cheeky sense of humour, your kindness, someone to listen to me when I needed to have a moan. I could go on but I'm finding this so so hard. 😪😪😪

My heart goes out to Ray, Kerry and Greg, son in law Chris and your beautiful grandchildren, Henry and Charlie who you adored and were so proud. I know they will miss you so much as will I,
more than I can put into words.

Goodbye my friend, and God bless you. Thank you for all the great times we shared. Xxxx

I was 5 years older than Sylvia. We used to play together in Dudley Street when I was brought up to stay for a week at a time; it was very crushed but we did have a lovely time.

We grew up and met our partners, later we had our children. Then the years rolled by, until we came back together again.

Sylvia, you will always be loved and remembered.

It has taken me so long to sit and write this, as to be honest it involves really taking on board the tragic loss of Sylvia, but here goes...

Dear Sylvia,

I have so many memories of you, starting with our years at athletics, where me and my brothers trained at the same club as Kerry and Greg. Our families grew close and over the years we had some blooming good parties...any excuse we seemed to have them....birthdays, new year, plenty of drinks and lots of memories made.

Not only did we have fun, but our families were always there for each other. The number of times you looked out for us and ferried us to athletics while mum was visiting dad in Patshull, the times you ensured you looked out for me when I was having a tough time.
I remember the time you, Ray, and Greg gave up two days to help my parents with completely digging out our garden (while Kerry and I made chocolate truffle cakes) you were always prepared to get stuck in and do anything to help people out. This is just one of those examples.

You knew your mind though and when you had an opinion on something, we definitely knew it!!! But that was what was so lovely...we always knew where we stood! 😘

I remember organising a surprise party for my parents anniversary....I think you were as excited about the party planning as me, and you gave up an entire day in your kitchen helping to prepare food out of sight of my parents....they were so touched.

You have been a lovely friend to my mum, and it was always a comfort to me, living so far away, that you were around the corner from her and I know my mum loved it when you spontaneously knocked on the door and then the two of you put the world to rights.

You were beyond proud of Kerry and Greg, supporting them to the hilt with all that they did...you would be so so proud of how they have handled this last 3 months.

Considering how much you did for me and my family over the years, I felt gutted knowing how unwell you were...if I could have got in my car and driven to the Midlands to help looking after you in hospital I would have done, but I couldn't and that felt wrong for me.

You will be really very missed Sylvia, and I just want to thank you...for fun, love, laughter, and help.

I know that every where your family goes a piece of you will go too in their hearts and memories.

So for now its Goodbye.....God Bless,Fly High, and Rest in Perfect Peace
Xxxx
