In loving memory of Kathleen Jones who sadly passed away on 3rd February 2021.
Kate was the eldest of 3 children born to Edna and Sam. She has a younger sister Joyce and a even younger brother Jonny teabags who sadly passed away. She grew up in Reeves Street and was said to be a mischievous tomboy by her sister Joyce. At age 5 she once went missing and was found to be asleep in a neighbours bed!!
She attended Richard C Thomas school where she became friends with Kath Jones, who would soon be her sister in law. She would go round to Mrs Jones's house a lot from age 14. She got her first job when she was 15 at Tunnak Clifts making darts.
It was through Kath, that she went on to meet John. They married in 1965 and a had a simple registry office wedding, they welcomed their first son Dave in 1965, followed by Charlie in 1967 then Little Steve in 1970. Sadly Dave passed away in 2004. Her children and her grandchildren were her life and loved to spoil them, sneaking them fivers whenever she could! Even sneaking her big sons bacca.
She was a skilled reupholster and was the family go to when anything needed fixing. She also had an important role as the family nit nurse! De bugging most of the family at some point or another. She once volunteered at Goscote hospital taking the patients out.
She loved a smoke and a game of bingo! She even won the big un once with her best friend/sister Lainie. She was a fan of Roy Orbison. Steve has a lovely childhood memory of Kate dancing with him Dave and Charlie around the living room to brown girl in the ring.
She became a nan to 4 David Loulou Emma and Chucky and great nan to 9 Lily George Frankie Joseph Nancy Florence Grace Ollie and Albie. Though she was a nan figure to many and was famously known as nanny Kate.
In her later life she became a full time to carer to husband John. She enjoyed sneaking out to buy scratch cards and popping to the bookies with son Steve! More recently she embarked on a mission known as "kidnap Kate" where Loulou and Moomin would sneak her off for a carvery and to the bingo!! Oh the fun we had.
She made the best Sunday dinners followed by a banging triffle!!
She loved reading the bible and enjoyed having Johovas witnesses visiting at home, and really believed in their views of a better world and found much comfort in this.
There is honestly not enough time or words in the world to say how much of an amazing, selfless, loved person she was.
She has truly left a hole in the family now she has gone.
