Born to Alexander James and Mary Elizabeth in Hammersmith. The eldest son followed by Barbara and Edwina.
Married Edna Gwendoline on 8th October 1960 in Willesden. Dad being then a TV engineer. He was a milkman when their first child arrived in 1964 Karen. Mum always joked “she was just like the milkman”. Janet followed in 1966 and Keith in 1968. Dad had been working at IBM and was offered a transfer to Havant. So packed up we all moved South. Dad always loved gardening and DI Y and his spare time you would find him in his garden growing his veggies.
It brought him much joy on the arrival of his first grandchild James. Many hours he spent playing in the garden inventing stories and games. Sam, Kate, Laura and Oliver followed. He was a family man and loved to see his children and grandchildren and hear about their day to day lives.
His heart was broken when his best friend our mum died. He never thought he would find happiness again. But mum never wanted dad to be alone so she sent along a friend from Waitrose - Dad found a new happiness with Amy. They made a new life with each other. Amy brought him a reason for life again. He was happy and enjoyed life once again.
Having suffered with Asthma as a child moving from London helped slow down the asthma attacks. But unfortunately this masked the heart disease that was discovered later on in life. Dad fought on still potter ring in his garden still growing tomatoes and runner beans for him and Amy to enjoy. In 2009 his first great grandchild Alfie was born, followed by Bobby then Albie. Unfortunately his health was deteriorating and he struggled with the basic of tasks. But he fought on- outwitting the specialists more times than we can count. But we knew time was ticking and then between Amy, Karen, myself, Laura and Debbie we all cared for him in his home which was his wish. This wish we managed to fulfil until the end. We now say a loving farewell to our dad, grandad and great grandad.
