Memories are forever and some of our best memories were when we used to go onto the Peak District hills with your family, Tims, and Geof’s as well as all our children and dogs walking for miles until we came to a pub for sustenance. And just recently talking to you on the phone about our different cancers, comparing notes and encouraging one another.
Rest in peace Phil.

Well Phil, after marrying your sister you welcomed me into your family with open arms.
We played football together and they were good times with lots of things to look back on and raise a smile about. We also worked together before moving to Nottinghamshire and when you followed 1 year later, we added much more to the memory bank.
One of the funniest memories I have was when we went to the Greendale Oak with our good friend & neighbour Geoff & my Brother Terry for a ‘quick’pint one Sunday lunchtime. It wasn’t a quick pint & needless to say all our dinners were dried up in the oven! Phil couldn’t remember driving home and parked the car so close to the neighbours bungalow that he couldn’t get out. Once indoors he went to the bathroom where Carol found him later rolled up in the bathroom carpet.
Phil leaves a very loving family who are very proud of him as we all are.

We will all miss you
Sleep easy Phil

Quite surreal to be writing this, such a larger than life figure and one who is clearly going to be missed by all of us left behind.

But, I’m thankful for the memories and the stories that live on and whilst we continue to retell them, you will always be remembered. It’s clear from the tributes from the lads I know from school just how much of a big part you were to their football lives and growing up, I think your influence on people is grossly underestimated

You leave a legacy in Paul & Rob and grandsons Jack & Eddie and I’m sure they will continue to do you proud

Rest easy Uncle Phil.

Ollie, Hayley & the girls x

Rest in peace Phil

You've left your mark with your boys!

Straight talking, loyal and kind lads that are always their to help their mates. Their misplaced confidence in their football skills may or may not be down to you...

Thinking of Paul and family, I'll raise a glass tonight.

My memories of Big Phil have always been pleasant ones. The first time I remember meeting him was at a school football match that me and Paul was playing in at All Saints and I remember thinking how alike they looked.

Phil was always nice to me and great to talk to especially on our trip up to Wembley to watch England play, it was a great day out and it was nice to spend time with him and listen to his stories about the Welbeck Colliery football days.

My heart goes out to my friend Paul and his family I cannot imagine the loss you must feel and I realise that there are no words that could replace the man that you loved so dearly.

I believe a true testament of our lives will stand in the thoughts and memories of the people that we have left behind and for me I can say that Phil was a good man with a good heart who loved his family and friends.
This is how I will always remember him.

My sincere condolences to your family,

Gavin Oakes

God bless you Phil, you was a top bloke and a great brother to your big brother Ernie and your sisters Iris and Angela. A loving Husband, Dad, Grandad, Uncle and friend to so many people. Everyone will miss you especially your family. You've left this world to soon but you certainly left an impression. The saying that the gooduns go to soon is entirely appropriate for you. Wherever you are in heaven pre warn them about your mad brother ' 'Mad Ern'! R.I.P Uncle Phil x.
