In loving memory of Ronald Haley who sadly passed away on 23rd January 2021
He will be sadly missed by his family and friends.
Ron was born on the 8th May 1931 at 24 Auckland Street, Vauxhall, London.
He went to Tweedale school in Sutton and did his national service with the RAF working as a clerk in a mobile x-ray unit. His first job was with Burtons the tailor as a salesman before becoming a ‘display supervisor’. He later became a self-employed running a newsagent shop in Cranleigh.
Ron married Marian Pauline Green on 13th September 1952 at the church of St Peter in Carshalton.
Ron and Marian had 3 children - Terry, Deborah, and Phillip and one grandson, Thomas.
Ron and his family suffered an immense loss when Terry succumbed to cancer at the age of 47.
Through their married life Ron and Marian lived together in Slade Green, New Malden, Cranleigh, Ewhurst and Petworth
Whilst living in Petworth, Marian developed dementia. Ron devoted his life to caring for her at home, always resisting moving her to a care home as he could not bear to be separated from her. Finally, Ron had to accept the inevitable that he could no longer provide the care Marian needed and, in 2015 after their 63rd Wedding Anniversary she moved to a care home. Ron hated them being apart and visited every day to sit with Marian and talk to her.
In 2016 Ron moved to a flat in Billingshurst where he could be closer to his beloved Marian and continued his daily visits. Ron became a welcome and familiar visitor to the care home and he was liked and well known by the staff.
The only thing that stopped Ron’s daily visits was Covid-19, he was distraught that he had to stop seeing his wife and he would call every day to check how she was. Once lockdown was lifted he was back visiting as often as he was allowed, although the need for social distancing still hurt as he sat across the room from her unable to hold her hand.
When allowed to visit on their 68th wedding anniversary last year he told the carer sitting with them that he had kissed Marian on every one of their wedding anniversaries and he wasn’t going to stop now. With that he walked across the room and gave her an anniversary kiss.
