Hadn’t spoken to Rob in years since he left but in the brief 2 years we were in left flank he was one of the best mates I ever had during my 23 years in the army. Truly numbed when I found out on Saturday morning, so many memories of Windsor and Northern Ireland, stuff gets misted over time but my memories of rob are still as clear as day. RIP mate.

Posted on Facebook Fri 12th Feb 21 - to the Scots Guards Association page. There have been 255 personal messages of condolences of response to date. Thank you

To all my former Scots Guards colleagues. Gentlemen, it is with great sadness for me to have to report the loss of another Scots Guardsman and my younger brother, Rob MacConnachie (1975-2021). Joining at 16, Rob went on to serve with both the 1st and 2nd Battalions, stationed in Edinburgh (G-Coy) and later Windsor (LF). His service, while only for a relatively short period of 6 years, had him deploy on active service to NI three times.

Rob’s life was celebrated on Monday, following his death on 21st January, four days before his 46th birthday. Having been admitted to hospital unexpectedly in November, He passed serenely surrounded by family at the Royal Hallamshire hospital in Sheffield.

What he lacked in physical stature he made up for by the size of his heart and selfless nature. For those of you whose paths may have crossed with him during service, please know that he never forgot the teachings of his Regimental brothers. Thanks, Andy Mac.
