In loving memory of Barry Moorby Boulton who sadly passed away on 29th January 2021.
Early in May 1930 a little boy called Barry was born who became hugely influential in my life. In fact he gave me my life. He was my father. He worked hard to provide for his family and had strict Christian values to which he adhered and made sure we understood them as well.
Everything Barry did in life he did because he believed it would make all our lives better. He believed in hard work and family values.
He taught us values which guided us through our lives, like respecting people and working hard, knowing when to enjoy ourselves and when to be serious.
Dad was immensely proud of his two sons, our achievements in our lives and our own respective families. You could see that pride in his face at a family gathering, such as a Sunday dinner or Christmas lunch when he would stop eating, sit back, look around the table at the chatter and fun we were having and smile. Although getting him to wear a Christmas cracker party hat was a challenge.
Dad noticed and encouraged my interest in engineering and motorcycles. He introduced me to my first boss who went on to become my first employer and one of my best friends. The life around motorcycles that I chose was also one that Dad and my grandfather had enjoyed.
Dad loved his choral singing and was very proud when his son Peter joined him in this interest.
I know Dad was frustrated in his last years, being dependent on other people for his and Mums care, it was not what they wanted. They had lived an active life together and being forced into being so inactive really upset him. In the last couple of years he was dreaming of grand schemes to move to Canada and live and work there. It was his escape.
Well now he has escaped, he is free to travel and go where he wishes but I have a feeling he will, in spirit, stay to be with Mum and support her until she is ready to be with him again.
Go well, go safe Dad. And thank you for everything you did for us. We love you.
