In loving memory of John Robert Williams who sadly passed away on 22nd January 2021, aged 73 years.

David Allen donated £20 in memory of John

I have only just learned of this sad news, and have many memories of watching John play at Layer Road, including his goal in ‘77, and even had a kick about with him and the team on the pitch when I was a mascot for the U’s in the late 70s. I also have fond memories of living in the same village as John’s family, including having my first crush as a schoolboy, on his lovely daughter Jackie! My thoughts and love are with all of his family x

  • Thank you David, for your kind donation and lovely words. I never knew that you were a mascot for Colchester. And School Boy Crush, I feel flattered, I had no idea, Lindsay never said! I hope you are all ok and life is treating you kindly. Much love, always, Jackie x

  • Hi Jackie, I was just watching an Elton John video where he held up a season Watford season ticket. I was telling my husband how he played at my friends Dads testimonial, I looked up what year it was and saw this very sad news. So sorry for you all, he was such a lovely man. Please pass on my condolences to your mum and sister. It’s been a really long time but I hope you are keeping ok. Amanda (Hooper) xx
